Reading and Video Reflection
This week’s reading and videos focused on the 21st
Century learner. We read and saw what a little technological motivation can do
for the morale of students. In Using Technology with Classroom Instruction that
works, talks about Planning for Technology.
Planning is an important part of any class. “Using
technology for technology’s sake isn’t a good application of instructional time
or funding, and it is unlikely to improve student achievement. It is essential
that teachers design a quality lesson plan first and then select the most
appropriate technologies to support that lesson” (p. 217).
The Four Planning Questions:
1. What will students learn?
2. Which strategies will provide evidence of student
learning?
3. Which strategies will help students acquire and
integrate learning?
4. Which strategies will help students practice, review,
and apply learning?
I love this statement because in order to design a quality
lesson plan, you have to take the time to really plan! And incorporating technology into any lesson,
takes that much more preparation. Technology is changing every day and if an
educator just uses technology for technology’s sake, would be a major waste. We
have to change with technology, always researching the best tools for class,
making sure we have the know-how in order to make an appropriate presentation
in class to and for our students. If we want this to be an awesome learning experience
for students we have to make lessons that will lure the students in and get
them motivated to learn.
The videos were a wealth of information. Welcome to the
Digital Generation video, was so realistic. A teacher teaches on the
chalkboard, he talks and talks and the students are nowhere near, into it!
Students lose sight of the lesson and become lazy and extremely sleeping. BOOM!
Lesson failed! Then the video changes and what do you have……. technological
devices fall from the ceiling, devices of fun literally falling into the
students hands and they light up, it’s great, it’s amazing. You’ve got their
attention and they are now into the lesson. BOOM! Lesson Successful!
The other Digital Youth Portrait videos, and the Kansas
Technology Rich Classrooms-Partnership for 21st Century Learning,
really focused on how technology changed students’ lives. They show individual
students as they make the change of traditional classroom to a technology
filled classroom and how their learning abilities and receptiveness of
technology in the class was amazing!
Technology really does enhance the lesson plans in the
classroom. It gives life to the subjects and motivation to the students.
